Net 229 is a Fidonetwork that covers the city of Toronto and surrounding areas known as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Net 229 also covers the southwestern area of Ontario, including Kitchener/Waterloo/London, to as far as Windsor and Niagra Falls. In addition, counties such as Peel, Durham, Grey (Bruce), Simcoe and Muskoka are covered.

NETmail, which is the personal messages between systems, Echomail (messages that "echo" amongst multiple systems) and Echofile distribution (files that are sent to multiple systems) are three major foundations which comprise the network and why most operators join.

Net 229 is a very large Fidonet "Hub" and complete Fidonet services are offered; such as NETmail routing, Echomail conferences and Echofile/TIC file distribution. It operates on an industrial-grade server system that handles both Internet connections and dialup modem access (PSTN) as per FTS-0001. As a convenience, Usenet groups and Internet Email access in PKT format or UUCP are also offered upon request using an automated management system (Areafix).
