There are no costs or strict requirements to obtain a Fidonet connection in Net 229. You do not have to run a BBS in order to join Fidonet. A standard mailer (such as D'Bridge) capable of FTS-0001 and/or Internet BinkD protocol is necessary. You may obtain a Net 229 listing provided you are residing geographically within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) or southwestern Ontario. If you do not reside in the area, you may not be granted a listing in Net 229 but you are still welcome to use the services - in fact Net 229 routes mail and files for lots of Fido systems that are not in this network and have addresses elsewhere. In this case, you will need to obtain an address from the appropriate network first. Net 229 will certainly assist with such matters promptly on your behalf.

To join Net 229, review Policy 4 and complete the application above. Install and configure a mailer, then send the application via Crash NETmail to 1:229/0 or /426.
